   內 容 簡 介
The story follows the life of low I.Q. Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) and his meeting with the love of his life Jenny. The film chronicles (記述) his accidental experiences with some of the most important people and events in America from the late 1950's through the 1970's including a meeting with Elvis Presley, JFK, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, fighting in Vietnam, etc. The problem is, he's too stupid to realize the significance of his actions. Forrest becomes representative of the baby boomer (嬰兒潮) generation having walked through life blindly.

   評 論
There's a huge row about the films supposed message. Indeed, the film hints at both the "American Dream" but also that all success is just blind luck (歪打正著). And people have rebelled against both, saying the American Dream is dead, and that the blind luck commentary is awesomely cynical.

But others have also lauded (讚美) it, declaring it a modern marvel.. and a fairy tale. The idea is that the film is figurative, held in the ideals, not the realities of the world. The American Dream may be dead in our world, but let it live in Forrests. None the less, it's a masterpiece.

None of this, of course, establishes the main question we've been asking. "Forrest Gump": Trash or Masterpiece? I'm not answering it. It's a matter of personal opinion and taste.

I loved Forrest Gump. I loved every minute of it's preachiness (愛講道理), of it's pretentiousness (炫耀). Why? Because this film has IDEALS. Forrest Gump had his ideals, he stuck to them. His mental retardation (障礙) was simply a device, not a main point. He sometimes failed, but he never gave up. Not on himself, and nor on anyone else.

In todays age of no-ideals, and weary pragmatism (實用主義), "It's a Wonderful Life" would be crucified (壓抑), had it been made today and not held dear as a cherished object of a fallen time. So it's no shock Forrest Gump has been crucified, as well.

   摘 抄 本
1. blind luck 人所不能控制的運氣, 意指歪打正著。

2. Momma always said: "Life is like a box of chocolates, Forrest. You never know what you're gonna get.""媽媽常常說,生命就如同一盒朱古力,你永遠不會知道你將得到什麼。"(這是阿甘經常提醒自己、"勸誡"他人的話。正是這句富含哲理的"箴言"激勵著善良真誠、樂天知命的阿甘腳踏實地、努力拼搏,並終由一名智障者變成了美國人心目中一個不朽的傳奇人物。)
